Winning competition for the extension of the B&O Parkhotel of Mietraching, Bad Aibling.
The park suites complement the uniform accommodation offered by a former military airbase, which was successfully converted into a hotel some time ago. At the heart of the rigid order of the former barracks lies an expansive park that extends into the surrounding landscape. The apparent contrast between the barracks buildings and the park gives rise to a place of distinct character and unexpected beauty. The project – a collection of hotel suites constructed from solid timber elements – adds another layer to the identity of the place, introducing a new way of experiencing it. Each small building is unique in its design and spatial experience, responding both to its immediate surroundings and to the presence of the other buildings. Through their geometry and positioning, they occupy an ambiguous position between landscape and architecture, like Kippfiguren that can be perceived as belonging to either realm. The spaces between the existing buildings are opened up to the park landscape and made accessible through a new footpath. The first of the ten suites was built as a prototype and opened to guests in 2024.
